What locals are saying
Pat Martin — the Nashville pitmaster behind Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint — planted his first out-of-state flag in West Ashley, and the no-frills format has earned a loyal following on St. Andrews Blvd. Daily-ground smash burgers with crispy edges, hickory-smoked pulled pork and bologna, and a comeback sauce made with Duke's mayo and sweet pickle relish do most of the heavy lifting on an intentionally tight menu. A cornmeal-breaded fried catfish sandwich exclusive to the Charleston location is a smart local nod; the hand-spun milkshakes close the deal. Price-point grumbles surface occasionally, and delivery orders can disappoint — cold fries, order mix-ups — but the dine-in experience runs consistently.
