What locals are saying
Groovers opened in fall 2024 on the same Calhoun Street block that anchored Charleston's legendary 90s music scene, and the owners — Eric and Kate Gussin, who also run Trio upstairs — stumbled onto something real: a vinyl DJ underground that the city had but no one was properly programming for. The format rotates disco spinners early in the week, live jazzy blues midweek, and craft cocktails every night with a $6 Sunday deal keeping the room accessible. Successful enough to warrant a Charlotte outpost within months of opening, though whether that pace dilutes the original Charleston groove remains to be seen.
