What locals are saying
A genuine 1861 antebellum brick mill on the Ashley River at the City Marina, the Historic Rice Mill is one of Charleston's few surviving 19th-century industrial landmarks and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1995. The building's exposed brick, pressed tin ceilings, wide-plank floors, and wraparound waterfront terraces deliver an architectural specificity that most downtown venues only approximate — and the unobstructed sunset views over the marina are among the best on the peninsula. Access skews heavily toward booked private events (weddings and corporate gatherings fill the calendar), but the exterior, marina grounds, and surrounding waterfront are worth the detour even for passers-through.
