Why locals love it
The city's serious art scene shows itself. Hit Robert Lange Studios, Helena Fox, Coker, and Corrigan in one walking loop.
What locals are saying
Friday Artwalks (First Friday Artwalks) are a well-loved, free monthly ritual among Charleston locals and a genuine entry point into the city's gallery scene — roughly 40 participating galleries across the French Quarter and downtown open their doors from 5–8 p.m. on the first Friday of most months, often with wine, light bites, and artists in attendance. Locals appreciate the no-pressure, drop-in format and the genuine breadth of styles on offer, from Lowcountry realism to contemporary abstracts. The main caveat is that it skips January and July, and the self-guided nature means first-timers benefit from downloading the map beforehand.
