What locals are saying
Cannon Park is a 2.7-acre Harleston Village staple wedged between Rutledge and Ashley Avenues, defined less by its amenities than by its four standing columns — ghostly remnants of the old Charleston Museum that burned in 1981 and left behind one of the peninsula's stranger, more atmospheric landmarks. Dog owners and MUSC-adjacent regulars have claimed the grassy lawn as their own, though the turf runs perpetually muddy and the playground shaded by live oaks is modest at best. Frederick Law Olmsted was tapped to design it; what exists today is only a partial realization of that plan, which somehow makes the place feel appropriately unfinished — and entirely Charleston.
