What locals are saying
The Glass Onion is a long-standing West Ashley institution and one of Charleston's original farm-to-table Southern spots, consistently praised by locals for honest, unpretentious comfort food—especially the oversized po'boys, shrimp and grits, and Tuesday fried-chicken platters—at prices well below comparable downtown restaurants. Its small strip-mall dining room and a visibility boost from a Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives appearance have made parking and waits a recurring complaint. Original co-founders have since departed, leaving Chef Chris Stewart as sole operator, but regulars broadly report that quality and the commitment to local sourcing have held steady.
