Week of October 19
Boone Hall's Fright Nights are gone but Halloween finds a new home aboard the Yorktown; Nirlep returns to Avondale after three years dark; and Montford Group bets $1.5B on Charleston's hospitality future.
The city's Halloween calendar reshuffled this week after Boone Hall Fright Nights went dark — the Post & Courier mapped what's filled the void, from paranormal investigations on a historic warship to a 50-room horror experience downtown. Meanwhile, two genuine reopening and rebranding stories broke: Avondale's Nirlep, one of the city's longest-running Indian restaurants, quietly unlocked its doors again after a three-year closure, and hotel firm TMGOC Ventures rechristened itself Montford Group, with $1.5 billion in projects tied to the new identity.
If you skipped the Boone Hall pilgrimage last year, now's the time to book the USS Yorktown Ghost Tour or the downtown haunted experience before October runs out. For dinner, Nirlep is back at 908 Savannah Highway — Balvinder and Dilawar Banga have been at it since 2002, and three years off doesn't appear to have cooled the kitchen. The Husk ownership group's move into Mount Pleasant, and the IAAM's new 'They Lived' exhibit, round out a week with more substance than most.
