Need to know
Frequently asked
- Do I need a boating license to rent a boat in South Carolina?
- Anyone born after July 1, 2007 must complete a SC DNR-approved boater education course to operate any boat with 10hp or more. Most rental companies accept a valid course completion card. Out-of-state visitors are subject to the same rule.
- What does a Charleston boat rental cost?
- Half-day rentals on a 20–24ft center console or pontoon typically run $400–$700; full-day $600–$1,100. Larger boats and high-season weekends push higher. Fuel is usually billed separately.
- What's the best season for renting?
- April–October is peak. Water is warm enough to swim by mid-May. The shoulder months (April + October) often have the best pricing and the most pleasant weather.
